Head of Biomarkers

Position overview

Reporting directly to the Executive Vice President, the Head of Biomarkers is an integral part of the management team and will be responsible for a team combining neuroscience and statistics. The main role consists of providing strategic expertise and making use of key tactics to guide biomarker research and support the company’s objectives and overall strategy.


  • Team management: plan, organize, manage, and evaluate the activities of the Biomarker Unit; Develop and implement policies, procedures, budget monitoring and research processes to ensure the team’s operational effectiveness;
  • Scientific leadership: responsible for the Biomarkers Development Plan. Work closely with the other units and CSO (Chief Science Officer) to determine priorities, and provide advice and guidance in line with the company’s strategy;
  • Develop key biomarkers development tactics and ensure they are applied in compliance with all the company’s strategic objectives and market realities;
  • Identify opportunities of strategic interest for the company and implement a concrete plan for each biomarker;
  • Responsible for deliverables such as submissions to regulatory agencies, implementation strategy, publication plans and other knowledge transfer activities (internal and external);
  • Develop and establish priorities and implement strategic/tactical plans to take advantage of previously identified opportunities and support the needs of the various internal teams;
  • Along with their team, a scientific contact for all of the company’s cross-functional stakeholders, providing specific support to the commercial unit and clinical operations group;
  • Develop scientific material (such as slides) for the commercial team in collaboration with the CSO. Present and support the commercial team during client calls;
  • Participate in congresses to update knowledge related to the position on an ongoing basis.


  • Education: PhD in neuroscience, MD or PhD in Pharmacology, Biology or equivalent education and experience;
  • Very good understanding about neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s and traumatic brain injuries;
  • Familiar with brain imaging, particularly diffusion MRI (an asset);
  • 5-10 years of relevant experience in a similar position in the pharmaceutical industry or other life sciences company;
  • 3-5 years of experience in team management;
  • Clinical knowledge of neurodegenerative diseases with respect to biomarkers and diagnostics, and good understanding of strategic clinical development and study design principles;
  • Ability to set objectives and monitor them with precise timelines;
  • Knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry and the drug development process;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent presentation skills;
  • Outstanding team player;
  • Ability to connect with a variety of collaborators locally, regionally and internationally, such as contract research organizations, regulatory agency representatives, clients and various internal team members;
  • Language: Professional-level English/French (note that all of our clients are based in the United States and Europe).
