Head of Finance and Administration

Based in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada, the company also has an office in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Position overview

Reporting directly to the Executive Vice President, the Head of Finance and Administration is an integral part of the management team. They will be responsible for implementing an internal control system to optimize the financial performance of the organization, which is experiencing substantial growth.


  • Plan, organize, manage, control, and evaluate the activities of the Finance and Administration Department
  • Develop and implement the organization’s financial policies, procedures, and systems
  • Coordinate the preparation of monthly financial statements, summaries, and reports (income statements, balance sheets, cash flow)
  • Update budget accounts, cash flow, and financing requirements, actual and forecast for the future
  • Set up a budget process, prepare and track financial forecasts, and deliver a quarterly presentation to the management team
  • Collaborate with different team members in the development of budgets related to client projects
  • Participate in the management and development of relationships with financial partners
  • Perform a financial evaluation of and ensure follow-up on the company’s projects
  • Oversee the payroll cycle with the external vendor
  • Supervise year-end and all income tax returns
  • Identify opportunities to improve existing policies, procedures, and systems while monitoring the implementation of new initiatives
  • Assess the company’s financial reporting systems, accounting practices, and investment initiatives and propose improvements to the financial control functions to the management team
  • Participate in the strategy, financial management, and due diligence for funding rounds in collaboration with senior management
  • Review various legal contracts and recommendations in collaboration with management
  • Handle administrative management of the company and Human Resources


  • Bachelor of Business Administration with a specialization in accounting or finance
  • 5–10 years of experience as a financial controller or in a similar position in a fast-growing company (“scale-up”)
  • 5 years of experience in team management
  • Excellent organizational skills, initiative, high autonomy, and relational ease
  • Leadership skills
  • Strong change management skills and flexibility

  • Ability and strong interest in sharing knowledge
  • Language: French/professional-level English (note that all of our clients are based in the United States and Europe)
