IT System Administrator

Position Overview

Reporting to our Head of Technology, Pierre Marc Jodoin, the candidate will work hand in hand with the company’s system administrators to maintain a functional work environment for all employees.  The candidate will work to maintain a high level of IT security, ensuring that the servers for data calculation and storage, as well as all backups, are operational at all times and all software remains up to date.

In this role, in collaboration with the other system administrators, you will be responsible for:

  • Monitoring and maintenance of the calculation cluster CPU-GPU (Linux/Slurm);
  • Monitoring and maintenance of the network (pfSense/Ubiquiti/Dell) and VPN (OpenVPN);
  • Monitoring and maintenance of network storage (FreeNAS/SMB3) and backups (Backblaze B2);
  • Monitoring and maintenance of different IT services (FreeNAS/SMB3) and user accounts;
    • Active Directory (Zentyal)
    • Google G-Suite
    • Jira-confluence
    • Metal-as-a-Service (Maas)
    • Management of passwords
    • Management of source code (Gitlab)
    • Cyber-security
    • MS-Office Suite
    • Etc.
  • System supervision;
  • Maintenance of installation scripts (Ansible);
  • Researching and evaluating new technologies with the purpose of improving our existing infrastructure and its security;
  • Ensuring that all IT procedures remain up to date in our Quality Management System (QMS);
  • Purchasing of IT material and software;
  • Responsible for the configuration of the working environment of the employees in all departments;
  • Preparing and supervising security audits.


  • Diploma (DEC, Bacc or Masters) in information technology;
  • 3 years or more of experience as a system administrator;
  • Desire to work as part of a team and help employees from all departments;
  • Desire to share their knowledge and experience with their colleagues;
  • Must have initiative, a sense of organization, ability to work autonomously and strong people skills;
  • A large capacity for adaptability and flexibility;
  • Language skills required:
    • French – functional oral and written
    • English – functional oral and written
  • Advanced knowledge of Linux/BSD;
  • Knowledge of Windows;
  • A strong base of knowledge in IT security and network administration;
  • Interest and/or experience in project management is an asset;
  • Familiarity with network infrastructure (VLAN, firewall, subnet, routing, etc.).
